in Grants and Awards

This month the AP Green Foundation, located in Mexico, Missouri, granted $185,000 to 15 Missouri organizations including the Missouri Computer Exchange (MOCX). MOCX will use their grant to construct a new website, incorporating social media, that will help them reach out to the community.

MOCX was established to work in partnership with schools to train students and teachers. MOCX solicits the donation of computer ‘waste’, refurbishes machines as much as is feasible, and parts out machines that cannot be refurbished. This work is carried out by high-school students, providing them with an opportunity to have hands-on education about the basics of computer construction and maintenance. Refurbished machines are donated to those in need.

To date, MOCX students have removed almost seven tons of e-waste from Missouri landfills. The vision of MOCX is that schools across the state will be able to provide high quality computer science education to students, supply internet-ready computers to local nonprofits, and divert tons of e-waste from landfills.
